The Delay

While heading to Heathrow to catch a flight, I instinctively checked my email and saw that the flight had just been delayed by a few hours. Usually it wouldn’t have been an issue but on this occasion, I had to honor an abrupt meeting in New York. Without thinking it through, I hopped off the next stop to contemplate. The choices were to either head back to the hotel or to wait for the next train and take my chances. I made peace with the latter. As we approached the airport, another email resurfaced. Now instead of flying out a few hours later, the flight would rather be delayed until the next day. The funny thing about delays is the frequency at which it tests our faith…

Oftentimes, some of us are easily deterred by unexpected life updates or swallowed up by societal pressures. While it may seem everyone around us is forging ahead, we feel stuck. In the idleness of our mind’s playground, we entertain negative thoughts concerning our self-worth. We begin to doubt our beliefs and believe our doubts. Fam, it may seem unlikely but what if I told you the delay is positioning you to empower others with your testimony tomorrow? You see, the fact remains- what comes out of you is in direct correlation with what you’ve been filled with. And when we observe critically, we can deduce there’s no such thing as a delay for a believer with unshakable faith. Precisely because once the door of opportunity opens, the Spirit of Divine Speed intervenes.

As I finally got to the American Airlines counter at the airport, the attendant indeed shared that there was a delay. However, as she continued to check the system, she ‘randomly’ found an empty seat on a partner British Airways flight. It’s about time you believe there are seats in rooms that will stay vacant until show up! What’s fascinating is that this new flight departed earlier, and arrived at my destination an hour before the original flight time. That’s when it clicked. When we can learn to stay in faith despite the delay, God gives us the divine speed to surpass the expectations of those who once doubted us- even ourselves. In God’s appointed time, miracles flow back to back to back.
